Grammar in Context
Homeschoolers sometimes wonder: "How do I teach grammar to my children?" They remember the endless worksheets and the torturous sentence diagramming exercises from their school days and wonder if they must impose these same tasks on their children in elementary school. For various reasons, I do not think grammar should be isolated as its own subject nor plumbed at great depths when kids are young. But it certainly need not be ignored. In this section, I share ideas for how to make grammar meaningful and fun.

Mentor Texts
According to Jeff Anderson in Mechanically Inclined, "A mentor text is any text that can teach a writer about any aspect of writer's craft, from sentence structure to quotation marks to 'show don't tell'" (16). What I have now is only a beginning. I will continue to build this section. If you want to help me, send me your selection, including the author, title, page number, and the category it best illustrates.

Editing on the Go
If you look carefully, you will see a need for editors almost everywhere. As I find examples, I will share them for your students to edit.

Student Showcase
Every writer needs an audience. Here you will find finished pieces from student authors, submitted for your enjoyment. Whether you are a fellow student, a curious onlooker, or a proud parent, you are the audience. Please enjoy the products of their labor, feel free to leave encouraging comments, and, if you would like to add your own students' work, send me their pieces as well.
